Catholic Wedding Vendors by the Numbers: The Most Complete Category in the Directory

399 Catholic wedding photographers, filmmakers, florists, DJs, and planners are in our directory, with a 75 percent quality rate. Here is what the data shows.

More than 399 Catholic wedding vendors are listed in the Discover Catholic Business directory: photographers, filmmakers, florists, DJs, planners, stationery designers, and venues. The category is small compared to healthcare or real estate, but it has the highest quality rate of any category examined in this series, and the data shows a business model built around a single distinguishing skill: understanding the Nuptial Mass.

A Catholic wedding is a liturgy before it is a party. The exchange of consent, the nuptial blessing, the couple receiving Communion together for the first time as husband and wife: these are the moments that matter most, and they happen inside a Mass with its own rhythm and rules. A vendor who knows that rhythm does not need to be told when to be quiet, where to stand, or which moment to capture. That competence is what the 399 businesses in this dataset are selling.

Of the 399 visible Catholic wedding listings, 301 carry high-quality scores, a rate of 75 percent. No other category in this data series comes close. Professional services reached 70 percent, real estate 64 percent, and pilgrimages 57 percent. The wedding category also has the highest web-presence rate: 373 of 399 listings, or 93 percent, include a working website. Wedding vendors are creative professionals whose portfolios live online, and their listings reflect that.

5 Key Findings from the Data

1. Texas leads with 40 listings and an 83 percent quality rate. Texas has the most Catholic wedding vendors in the directory, with 33 of 40 scoring high-quality. Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio each have documented Catholic photographers, DJs, and planners.

2. Pennsylvania has the best quality rate of any major state. Twenty-five of Pennsylvania's 26 listings (96 percent) are high-quality. Florida is close behind with 26 of 29 (90 percent).

3. Photography and film dominate the category. The most common services across all 399 listings are photography and videography, followed by planning, floral design, DJ services, and stationery. A growing number of vendors offer both photo and film from a single studio.

4. Minnesota and Colorado outperform their Catholic populations. Minnesota has 14 listings (13 high-quality) and Colorado has 14 (10 high-quality). Both rank ahead of Michigan and Illinois, states with far larger Catholic populations, because Catholic wedding vendor networks in the Twin Cities and Denver are unusually well-organized.

5. The category is young. Many of the highest-quality wedding listings were founded within the last decade by Catholic photographers and filmmakers in their twenties and thirties who built their businesses specifically around sacramental weddings. This is one of the few categories in the directory where the typical business owner is under 40.

Catholic Wedding Vendors by State

| State | Listings | High-Quality | Quality Rate | |-------|----------|--------------|--------------| | Texas | 40 | 33 | 83% | | Florida | 29 | 26 | 90% | | Pennsylvania | 26 | 25 | 96% | | Ohio | 26 | 18 | 69% | | Indiana | 20 | 17 | 85% | | Minnesota | 14 | 13 | 93% | | Colorado | 14 | 10 | 71% | | Michigan | 13 | 12 | 92% | | Illinois | 11 | 10 | 91% | | Maryland | 10 | 9 | 90% | | Virginia | 10 | 7 | 70% | | Kansas | 10 | 4 | 40% |

Every state in the top ten except Kansas posts a quality rate above 69 percent, and seven of the twelve are above 85 percent. This is the most consistently well-documented category in the directory.

What Kinds of Catholic Wedding Vendors Are in the Directory

The wedding category covers every vendor a Catholic couple hires between the engagement and the reception. The high-quality listings show the range.

Photographers and filmmakers. This is the largest segment. Four Loves Photo & Film in Orlando, Florida, founded by Joanna Ojeda, offers both photography and videography from a single studio and draws its name from C.S. Lewis's book on the four Greek words for love. Gina Ballintyn Photography in Washington, DC, grew out of a hobby that Gina's husband Brian encouraged into a business; he now serves as business manager while she handles the creative work. Vitae Photography in Fort Worth, Texas, covers weddings, portraits, and senior sessions across the DFW Metroplex. Designs by Jessina in Fargo, North Dakota, was started by Jessina Kary after a co-worker asked her to photograph a wedding, and it grew into a full-time business after the birth of her first child.

Video and media production. Creative Particle in Coral Gables, Florida, is a Catholic-owned video production studio that serves weddings alongside its commercial marketing work. Video is the fastest-growing segment of the category, because couples increasingly want the spoken vows and the music of the Mass preserved, not just the images.

DJs and entertainment. DJ Kyle Sertner in Dallas, Texas, is one of several Catholic DJs in the directory. A Catholic DJ knows which songs belong at a reception and which do not, and understands the family dynamics of a wedding where the pastor may be sitting at table three.

Florists. Julie's Flowers in Hershey, Pennsylvania, provides fresh floral arrangements for weddings and other occasions with delivery. Church floral work has its own conventions, including the seasonal restrictions of Advent and Lent, and a Catholic florist knows them.

Why Catholic Wedding Vendors Have the Highest Quality Rate

Three factors explain the 75 percent quality rate.

First, wedding vendors are portfolio businesses. A photographer without a website has no business, so nearly every listing includes one. Second, the category skews young and digitally native. The Catholic photographers and filmmakers who started studios in the last ten years built their online presence first and their client base second. Third, several of the sources that feed the directory, including Catholic bridal collectives and wedding vendor networks, require complete profiles from their members before listing them. Those profiles carry over into the DCB data.

The Knot and WeddingWire publish annual industry studies on the American wedding market, covering average vendor counts per wedding, spending categories, and booking timelines. Those studies consistently show that photography and videography are among the first vendors couples book and among the most carefully researched. Catholic couples follow the same pattern, with one additional filter: they want a photographer who will not be surprised by a Nuptial Mass.

What Catholic Couples Should Know Before Booking

The data shows where the options are deepest. If you are getting married in Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Indiana, the directory has more than 20 documented Catholic wedding vendors in your state, most of them high-quality. If you are in Minnesota, Colorado, Michigan, Illinois, or Maryland, the options number between 10 and 14, with high quality rates.

If you are in California, the directory has only 3 Catholic wedding listings. In New York, 6. Both are documentation gaps rather than market gaps, and both are the clearest openings in the category for Catholic vendors who want visibility.

Book early. Catholic wedding vendors with strong reputations in a given diocese are frequently booked more than a year out, especially for the popular months of June, September, and October.

What This Means for Catholics

For engaged Catholic couples, the directory offers 399 vendors, 301 of them verified high-quality, spread across every major Catholic market in the country. The category's web-presence rate of 93 percent means almost every listing links directly to a portfolio, which makes comparison shopping straightforward.

For Catholic wedding professionals, the data shows a category where quality is the norm and where a few large states remain nearly empty. A Catholic photographer, filmmaker, florist, or DJ in California, New York, Washington, or Arizona who claims and completes a listing joins a very short list.
